Shaima Alawadi’s murder is not as simple it appeared to be. Alawadi, a Muslim woman who was beaten to death in her home last month, possibly with a tire iron, may not have been the victim of a hate crime after all.
Court records show that Alawadi wanted to divorce her husband and leave the state, while her teenage daughter, Fatima, who discovered her mother’s body, was frustrated about being forced to marry her cousin, The Atlantic reported. Fatima reportedly received a text message shortly after her mother was killed that said, “The detective will find out tell them (can’t) talk.”
And yet another event makes finding the truth a lot more complicated. The Atlantic also reported that Fatima was picked up by police last November after they received a report of two people having sex in a car, and found her in the vehicle with a 21-year-old man. Her mother picked her up, but while driving home, Fatima threw herself out of the moving car, breaking her arm. Reportedly, she told hospital staff she was angry about the arranged marriage.
How have the new details from the police reports changed your view of the murder? Or of Alawadi’s family, particularly her daughter?
