Khutbah English Transcript November 4, 2011

All praise and thanks is due to Allah.  We seek refuge in Allah from the evils in our souls and our sins. Whoever Allah has guided will never be misguided, and whomever Allah misguides there is no guidance for them. I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, and I bear witness that Mohamed is his servant and his messenger. “O mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the [final] Hour is a terrible thing.(1) On the Day you see it every nursing mother will be distracted from that [child] she was nursing, and every pregnant woman will abort her pregnancy, and you will see the people [appearing] intoxicated while they are not intoxicated; but the punishment of Allah is severe.(2)” Surah Al Hajj [22]

O Servants of Allah I advise you and myself to be pious and obey Allah and follow his orders and fear him constantly.

O Muslims today is the eighth day of Dull Hijjah; keep in mind brothers and sisters that Hajj(pilgrimage) began in a spiritual manner before it was physical. That is because when Allah ordered our prophet Abraham PBUH to build the house Allah said: “And proclaim to the people the Hajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass –”

Therefor lend me your ears and let us relive this blessed moment with our beloved prophet Mohamed PBUH as he performs the Farwell Pilgrimage as it was narrated by Bukhari and Muslim from the hadith of Jabir son of Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: The prophet PBUH headed towards Minna where he prayed D’hur, A’sr, Maghrib, Isha’a, and Fajr –five prayers- and then he rested for a while until the sun rose. So he continued until he reached Arafa and then he went to Nimra, until the sun set he left and he went to the Valley bed; were more than 124 thousand of the companions have gathered and they were performing Talbya.

So the prophet gave a sermon were he specified the main ideas of Shariaa from preserving fath, the soul , the body, the mind, the offspring, and wealth. He said “Verily your blood and your property are as sacred and inviolable as the sacredness of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this land of yours. Behold! Everything pertaining to the days of ignorance is under my feet completely abolished. Abolished are also the blood revenges of the days of ignorance. The first claim of ours on blood revenge which I abolish is that of the son of Rabi`ah ibn al Harith. And the usury riba of the pre-Islamic period is abolished, and the first of our usury I abolish is that of `Abbas ibn `Abd al Muttalib, for it is all abolished. Fear God concerning women! Verily you have taken them on the security of God, and intercourse with them has been made lawful unto you by words of God. You too have rights over them, and they should not allow anyone to sit on your bed whom you do not like. But if they do that, you can chastise them but not severely. Their rights upon you are that you should provide them with food and clothing in a fitting manner. I have left among you the Book of God, and if you hold fast to it you would never go astray. And you would be asked about me (on the day of resurrection), (now tell me) what would you say? They (the audience) said: “We bear witness that you have conveyed (the message), discharged (the ministry of Prophethood) and given wise (sincere) counsel.” He (the narrator) said: “He (the Prophet) then raised his forefinger toward the sky and pointed it at the people (and said): “O God, bear witness, O God, bear witness” and after the Prophet PBUH was done with his sermon Allah the exhalted revealed this verse “ This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion. “ [Surah Al Maida 5:4] Following that Omar may Allah be pleased with him started weeping so he was asked what makes you cry Omar? He replied: Perfection is always followed by imperfection.

Afterwards Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) proclaimed the Azan, then he read the Aqamah and prayed the Zuhr prayer. The he read Aqamah and prayed Asr without praying anything between them. Then he rode on till he came to the halting place. He turned the back of his camel Qaswa towards the rocks and kept Habul Mushat in his front and faced the Qiblah. He continued to stay till the sun set in or the reddish colour went a little, till the disc of the sun disappreared.

He took Hadrat Osamah (may Allah be pleased with him) back on his riding animal and marched on till he came to Muzdalifah. He prayed Maghrib and Isha prayers there with Azan and two Aqamahs without any Tasbih between these two. Then he slept till there was dawn. He prayed Fajr when it was early dawn with one Azan and one Aqamah.

He rode on Qaswa till he reached Masharul Haram. He then turned towards the Qibla, invoked Allah, glorified Him, recited Tahlil and declared His unity. He continued to stay (there) till it was very clear.

Then he began to march before the sun rose and took Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) behind, till he came to the valley of Mohasser. He halted a little and then threaded the middle way which comes out over the greater Jamarah, till he came to a Jamarah near the tree. He threw seven small pebbles like the pebbles of uttering takbir at each throwing. He threw from the foot of the valley and then departed to the place of sacrifice. He sacrified with his own hands 63 camels and gave (the rest) to Sayyidina Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) who sacrificed what remained. He made him (Sayyidina Ali) a partner in his animals. Then he ordered for some meat of every camel. It was then put in a kettle and cooked. They both partook of its meat and drank some of its broth.

The Prophet PBUH afterwards rode, hastened towards the House, prayed Zuhr at Makka and came to Banu Abdul Muttalib who were in charge of Zamzam well. He said: Take water from the children of Abdul Muttalib. But for the people who might overcome your right in your giving drink, I would have drawn water with you. They then gave him a bucket of water and he drank there-from. (Muslim)

O Muslims tomorrow is the day of Arafa; the day of completion of faith, and it is a great day. The fasting of that day is beloved and praised upon.  It was narrated by Abu Qutada that the Prophet PBU said “The fasting of the day of Arafa; Allah will forgive the year before and the year after”

It was narrated by Ibn Al Moseeb that Aisha said: The prophet PBUH said: “Not a day does Allah free his slaves from the hellfire more than the day of Arafat. Then he [Allah] descends and praises them [his slaves] to the angels and say :”what do they want give them”

It was narrated that some Jews told Omar if this verse “ This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion. “ was revealed to us, we would’ve taken this day a day of festivity. Omar said: We know when and where it was revealed and where the Prophet PBUH was at that time: It was revealed on a Friday when we were with the Prophet in Arafat”

The Prophet PBUH said “The best dua’a is that of the day of Arafat” It was also narrated by Amro son of Shoayb that the prophet PBUH said “ The best dua’a is that of the day of Arafa, and the best of what the previous prophets and I have said is: “There is no god but Allah, he has no partner, he is the king, to him all thanks is due, and he is capable of all things.” Tirmizi

So congratulations to those who remember Allah, those who spend in his way, and those who are merciful. We ask Allah to accept Hajj from those who went. May Allah make us from those who go to Hajj next year.

I ask Allah for forgiveness for me, my family, you, and the rest of the Muslims.
